The Canadian Real Estate Association publishes monthly statistics on several major Canadian housing markets. Its most recent release showed that the number of home sales fell 5.8 per cent in December 2014 compared with the same period a year earlier. There was particular softness in Edmonton and Calgary amid an uncertain outlook for oil prices. That said, the national average sales price continued to rise, climbing 3.8 per cent compared with December of 2013.
